Resolve is No Match for the Promise of Beauty Firing the Power of Obsession

Installation of the second pylon at Soleri Bridge and Plaza Project

Finesse

I may have mentioned something recently about my next post on the Soleri Bridge and Plaza project being planned for a month from now or something along those lines. I forget what I said exactly. If so, I may have been excessively firm in my resolve (the abstract) to resist posting further photos of the work in progress (the concrete).

However, on Thursday morning right about 8:00 am, I saw these two men standing on top of two graceful cylinders gleaming in the morning sunlight, and was struck by hopeful, optimistic thoughts.

One morning on my commute this week, I rode past a woman pausing in her morning run. She was fit and hot and possibly preoccupied with thoughts of the day in front of her. This was in an area that I usually ride very slowly, just for the hell of it, whether there is a hot woman runner there or not. So I was just moseying along as usual through the mosey zone, and she was just turning toward me to start running, and I think, hmmm, to wave or not to wave, and I see the initial look on her face, which was what, hard? Guarded? Shielded? Then she saw the little green Gumby stuck on my handlebar waving, and it all melted in an instant. It was kind of amazing, the power the little green flexible guy has.

It seemed to me that:
Gumby on my handlebars WAS to the melting of the hot runner woman
AS
The guys perching on top of the Soleri pylons WERE to my powerful rush of hope/optimism
AS
The Soleri Bridge and Plaza Itself WILL BE to the delight/awe/inspired curiosity of those who see it.

It may not be prudent for me to predict when my next post on this topic will be, and I don't think you would believe me if I did, anyway. But I don't mind being thought of as an unreliable narrator when it comes to fantastic pedestrian bridges that have special features which indicate the solstices and equinoxes. It will probably be one of those things you just have to see for yourself anyway.

I've stuck sticks in my yard so that the rising sun will cast a shadow which points in directions AWAY from this project to remind me to ride out and look at other things. However, just now I glanced out the window at them, and it appears that a little green bendy man is rearranging them. Hmmm.

Get up. Go ride.

  1. Okay, nevermind the bridge, I want hot woman runner pics!
The images above are great too.
    I'm liking the top one.
I think seeing how things are made is just as interesting as seeing the finished uh, thing.

  3. By the way, out of curiosity, are they leaving the towers free standing until they attach the suspension cables?

  4. Yes, those shiny pylons are just sort of floating there, for now. Not that I have checked lately. At least not today.
